Michael A. Dively, a Republican, was born in 1938 in Cleveland, Ohio. He received a B.A. in American history and literature from Williams College, Williamston, Mass. He graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1964. He practiced law in Traverse City, Mich. before entering public service.
